Exclusive US distributor
Cinemeccanica and Boston Light & Sound.
A century of Italian craftsmanship.
Cinemeccanica was founded in Milan in 1920, at the height of the silent film era. For more than a century the company has designed and built film projection equipment that has served cinemas on every continent. Through the widescreen revolution of the 1950s, the 70mm era of the 1960s, the Dolby years of the 1970s, and the digital transition of the 2000s, Cinemeccanica kept manufacturing. When every other film projector manufacturer stopped production, Cinemeccanica did not. The Victoria 8 — the only 35/70mm film projector still being made anywhere in the world — is the result of that commitment.
Why we partnered.
Boston Light & Sound has been working with film projection equipment for nearly fifty years. We have installed, serviced, and operated projectors from every major manufacturer. When we looked for a partner to represent in the United States, the criteria were straightforward: the equipment had to be genuinely in production, not refurbished or remanufactured; it had to be built to a standard we could stand behind; and the manufacturer had to share our belief that film projection is a craft worth preserving. Cinemeccanica met all three. The Victoria 8 is the only new film projector we know of. It is made to order in Milan by people who have been doing this for over a hundred years. That is the machine we want to put in front of our clients.
The TS-1 Film Sound Player.
To bring film into the modern age, Boston Light & Sound developed the TS-1 Film Sound Player — engineered with the Victoria 8 in mind. The TS-1 handles digital timecode-based playback for both 35mm and 70mm formats, bridging classic analogue projection with modern 16-channel lossless audio. It is sold and installed as part of the Victoria 8 system.
